About the Program

Concept: 


Prout's 3 tiered industrial structure includes "Key Industries." These are generally understood to include industries that function well as large scale operations. A relevant and simple idea in standard economics is "natural monopolies" which are industries that are only cost efficient when very large.


This is a relatively simple economic topic that should allow us to bridge mainstream economic methods and Proutist economics in a short flipped class.

Prout also gives other reasons for designation of Key Industries. If we go forward with this topic we plan to generate 3 discussion questions that get at:


1. How Prout's concept of Key Industries fits with the idea of Natural Monopoly
