NHE-TP Program Overview

This program is driven directly by the demand of a global community of teachers and families requesting training in Neohumanist Education. Parents and educators are seeking to have a higher quality education for their children and students, especially in developing countries and communities.

Over 30 years plus, global conferences have been held in India, United States, Bali, Argentina, Venezuela, Taiwan, Brazil, Italy, Lebanon, Croatia, Netherlands, and Sweden, in an attempt to meet the high demand for Neohumanist education programs with specific learning objectives. This NHE-TP Program Program is the culmination of that demand for a professional comprehensive curriculum based on the values of Neohumanism. Now with a base in Western North Carolina, we aim to expand our influence to serve the local counties in our region. Our professional development curriculums equip our students with the skills, knowledge, resources and a network of mentors essential to facilitate the transformation of local educational systems for the better.

Neohumanism honors the unity in diversity that is the sum of universal consciousness. At the Neohumanist College of Asheville, all aspects of each student’s personality are developed, based on a layered understanding of human consciousness: physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, aesthetic and spiritual.

Program Origin

Our story traces back to 1963 when Shrii P.R. Sarkar spearheaded an educational movement for all round development and many hundreds of schools developed all over India. In the early 1970´s the first schools outside of India started in Nepal, Africa, Philippines, Europe and USA. Shortly after launching the cultural ideals of Neohumanism in 1982, with the publication of the ground-breaking book, Liberation of the Intellect: Neohumanism, he expanded the underlying philosophy of education to be infused with Neohumanist principles and thus the Neohumanist Education term evolved. By 1990 there were over 1000 schools and children homes in over 50 countries as well as several higher learning institutes including a Degree College and a Polytechnic College.   With the founding of Ananda Marga Gurukula in 1990, as the Board of Education of all educational projects as well as a University in the making, all institutions from preschool up to postgraduate, were connected together into one global educational movement.

The evolution of Neohumanist Education continued with global conferences, curriculum standards, and the publication of "The Foundations of Neohumanist Education" in 2010.  The first Global Conference was held in 1991 at Anandanagar, India.  Many global conferences took place after that around the world including ones in  USA, India, Australia, Sweden, Italy, Bali, Malaysia, Brazil, Taiwan, and other locations,  with  the latest one being offered in the summer of 2025 in Romania.    Centers for Neohumanist Studies were developed starting in 2004 in various parts of the world, and the online Neohumanist College was established in 2014.   This paved the way for the establishment of the Neohumanist College of Asheville in 2015, a global campus in North Carolina, USA.

The request from all corners was for training for NHE teachers and a diploma program was offered starting in 2001.  That program has greatly developed over the past two decades into what is currently the NHE-Teacher Preparation Program being offered through the Neohumanist College of Asheville as a global online program with students from every continent.
